Dr. Katelynn Pierce's lifelong passion for horses began in early childhood, deeply rooted in her mother's equestrian influence on their family's small Virginia horse farm. This early immersion led her to pursue a strong academic foundation, earning a BA in Economics and a BS in Animal Sciences from Virginia Tech.
While at Virginia Tech, she not only excelled academically as a member of the Dean's Leadership Council but also showcased her equestrian talent as a competitor on their IHSA team. Her dedication continued as she remained in Blacksburg to obtain her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, where her commitment to equine health was recognized with the prestigious AAEP Winners Circle Scholarship.
During her veterinary studies, Dr. Pierce broadened her riding experience, transitioning from Hunter Equitation to the exciting disciplines of Show Jumping, Eventing, Fox Hunting, and even a memorable foray into Team Penning aboard Off-The-Track-Thoroughbreds.
After graduation, she spent 2.5 years in Japan working for the US Army and as an FEI Treating
Veterinarian for international competitions. She was honored to become a member of a Japanese riding club, learning to take lessons in Japanese.
In 2021, she served as a treating vet at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She returned to the United States, working in coastal South Carolina and Georgia.
There she continued as an associate veterinarian in equine sports medicine, diagnostic imaging, preventative care, internal medicine, ophthalmology, field surgery, and emergency medicine. In 2023, she completed her requirements to become an FEI Veterinary Delegate.
Outside of her work, she enjoys quality time with her husband and two daughters, traveling, and
aspiring to Event with her Holsteiner mare. Dr. Pierce is excited to be in Ocala to further her care for performance horses in the Horse Capital of the World.
As an equestrian and horse owner, she understands the lifestyle and dedication in having a partner who is both an athlete and member of the family. She believes in treating each horse as an individual and understands the important bond between horse and rider.
